Delmarva Sash & Door Company History
Delmarva Sash & Door Company
of Maryland, Inc. was founded in 1942 by Clarence Landskroener
with a warehouse and plant in Barclay, Maryland.
DSD's original business consisted of assembling
and distributing
wood windows, storm sashes, doors and mouldings. In 1959, DSD began fabricating
interior
door units. In 1963, kitchen cabinets were added but discontinued in
1978.
In March, 1978, the current office facility opened. Just a
few months later, in September, a devastating fire destroyed the warehouse and plant
facility in Barclay. Within 11 days of the fire, DSD was up and running with 80%
production in temporary buildings. One year later, September 6, 1979, DSD opened the plant
and warehouse facility that they currently occupy. The sculpture on the side lawn,
"The Phoenix," consists of the I-beams from the old building, the shape of which
was formed by the heat of the fire. It symbolizes the spirit of DSD and its associates in
their "rise from the ashes.
